Topciment® collaborates on FOR_IA, a project that optimises coating production and technical support through artificial intelligence

The construction materials industry is evolving towards increasingly technical systems, where the speed at which information can be analysed and data-driven decisions can be made makes all the difference. In this context, FOR_IA was launched: a strategic collaborative project that implements artificial intelligence to improve the development, production and technical support of high-performance decorative coatings.

At Topciment®, we work to ensure that innovation translates into tangible improvements: more efficient processes, less uncertainty in decision-making and increasingly precise technical support. Along this path, the financial backing of FEDER funds has been a key boost in launching strategic initiatives such as FOR_IA.

What is the FOR_IA project?

FOR_IA is a collaborative industrial research project whose main objective is the development of an Intelligent Digital Tool (IDT) capable of acquiring, managing and leveraging industrial data through the implementation of artificial intelligence models.

The tool aims to optimise the following processes:

- formulation,

- production,

- and technical support for coatings, with a particular focus on complex systems such as microcement.

In practice, it will facilitate solution customisation, the automated diagnosis of incidents and improved operational efficiency.

A data-driven approach to decision-making

Industrial digitalisation opens the door to new ways of working: less trial and error, more structured information, and decisions supported by predictive models. FOR_IA was created with that ambition — to turn technical know-how and available data into a real operational advantage, helping to reduce time, costs and deviations in key processes.

Strategic objectives of the FOR_IA project

FOR_IA is framed within Smart Specialisation Strategy of the Valencian Community (S3-CV), particularly in the areas of:

- Disruptive Digital Economy,

- Circular Economy,

- and Sustainable Habitat.

The project is built around four main strategic objectives:

  1. Develop an innovative digital tool that transforms the way coating formulation and production are carried out.
  2. Improve operational efficiency by reducing costs and the time required to develop new products.
  3. Protect and amplify the technical knowledge accumulated within the company.
  4. Increase industrial competitiveness through data-driven decision-making and predictive models.

A consortium to accelerate technology transfer

FOR_IA is being developed in cooperation between Nunsys, Topciment® and Tecnocaucho, bringing together technological and industrial capabilities to drive a tool designed to meet real needs in the sector.

Investment made in the FOR_IA project

The FOR_IA project has a total investment of €848.389,38 , distributed over the 2025–2027 period, with financial support from the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), under the Valencian Community 2021-2027 programme.

The annual breakdown is as follows:
- 2025: €154.456,05
- 2026: €234.450,94
- 2027: €459.482,39
